Hi, I'm Ivy. In the course of my internship, I've interacted with many international students. Today I'd like to share one student`s experience that stood out to me. This is her story.
"My name is Jafrin. I had only been in Leeds for two days and was still trying to find my way around. One afternoon, my friend and I left our accommodation to find Leeds Arts University. We realized we were lost. While roaming around, a lady called Heidi noticed our confusion and approached us. She introduced herself and explained that she works with international students so was easily able to spot us. While chatting, she informed us that she would love to help us but was in a hurry to attend another meeting.
So she led us to the Transformations Leeds office and explained that she had been there before, meeting with Laura and Ivy who both work for the organization. Heidi assured us that we were in safe hands and that she had to go. Ivy gave us a very warm welcome and we immediately felt at ease around her. She was patient, listened to our troubles, and generous gave us practical tips on how to get basic commodities (like food, clothing, public transport, etc). Without this information, my friend and I would have had a much harder time adjusting. Which is why we're both so grateful to Ivy for being there when we needed help.
Since then, our friendship has blossomed and she's been my best friend and my sister. I introduced her to my parents who were delighted to learn that she was a Christian. My parents loved her and are no longer worried about me since they know I have Ivy for support. She has always been ready to help and often goes out of her way to make sure I'm comfortable. I 've found a home away from home in The Living Room and Explore International. I'm glad I've had the opportunity to make new friends. My experience as an international student here has been much better because of Ivy."
