IWW “HOW TO” GUIDE - STAGE 3
INTERNATIONAL WELCOME WEEK
CU INTERNATIONAL SECRETARY’S RESPONSIBILITIES:
SUNDAY - Getting the team together for a meal is a great way to start the week. This is a great chance to meet the people you don’t know and warmly welcome them to the team.
MONDAY - This is the team’s training day so remember that many will be looking to you for what to do and when to do it. Things typically work best if you are clear and direct. Don’t be afraid to be a bit bossy!
WEDNESDAY TO FRIDAY - The cafe will be running during the daytime which means making sure that:
There’s an efficient setup plan, and team, in place ahead of time.
People are specifically responsible for drinks so that the water is always hot 10 mins before the cafe every day.
People are welcoming and handing out fliers. Ideally 2-4 people of mixed genders outside the marquee. Confident and extroverted people are usually best for this task as it involves speaking with strangers.
Every table/tablecloth is clean, has fliers, snacks, and anything else that might need to be on it.
You are attentive and engaging if International Students approach you or haven’t been spoken to by a IWW team member, even if you hand them off to someone else.
You are paying attention to your team. Ideally they’d all be engaged in conversation or their various support roles.
Someone is in charge of the literature table so it is set up nicely, and maintained, each day.
You’ve got large and clear signage. This includes a welcome sign, a free tea/coffee sign, a free booklets sign, and a notice that photos and videos will be taken and used for publicity purposes unless specifically requested not to be.
The comments book is being used.
You let the TL team know if you want help from us with any of these tasks!
SUNDAY - Meet at the Parkinson steps for church welcome services.
If you’ve got any questions, concerns, or suggestions feel free to drop us a line at phil.thomas@transformationsleeds.org.uk and we’ll get back to you ASAP!
